(Prom a Correspondent). | The School Children’s picnic which came off on Kri ay, the 9th insfc, was rather a tame affa r owing to the weather, which was very cloudy and showery' all the morning, and there had been very heavy rain the night before, so that the ground was not very pleasant for the sports which , were sot up for the hoys and girls, by the liberality of a few gentlemen who, by subscription, raised enough. • The teacher being afraid that the expenses would be rather heavy, would not venture to give prizes for running and juraoing, etc. The games once started were carried on with great spirit, and I believe that the little ones enjoyed themselves very-well. Th r concert was rather a surprise, as no one expected such a gooT progrihime to be got up by our local talent; The weather was fine and clear from 2' - p.m:;‘and num-, bers of visitors came in from the surround ing districts, bent on enjnyirig'themselves. The singers all gave satisfaction,- particularly the child-on, whose songs', were well chosen and well sung, and rj fhe'lady who taught them deserves grCat ififaise. ; There were several encores given and; "responded to After the concert the, dance was kept - , up with great spirit by old and -young till 4 a.m., the only drawback being'that there was very poo* - ’ music, as the' persons who had promised their services did not put in. ah appearance. The young people were riot to be done out of 'their little dance,-how-ever; A concertina' fraS procured, . and several of the yourig gentlemen took turnsin playing it till the dance brftfefe/bp. Mr j... Ryan acted as M.C. in his r ushal creditable" style. --r All the ladies about here are busy pgrparing for the annual Christmas Tree’, and, [ hear it is to be got up in grand style this year, and the drawing is to be all prizes ahd no blanks.
