Thames, August 25. A fatal fire occurred at Parawai. A miner named Woods was boiling tar on his kitchen fire, and during his ab-mce from the house the tar boiled over, setting fire to the house. A five months-old child was bu nt 1 1 death, aa i Woo ls and his wife were so seveiely burnt that they bad to be brought into the , hnsnital. Woods estimates his Joss at L 470, and was unin sured. Auckland, August 25. Alextnder Lsmh, aged 72, died unexpectedly at South Wairoa. He got a severe scratch on the leg. an I the dye f'om his knitte 1 coloured stockings produced bloodpoisoning.
