Prom Part IV of the Statistics of the Colony for ihe past year we glean the fol lowing interesting figures : Total lensth of railways open for traffic in the Colony. '-‘7O miles ; total cost of same, LlO 478 998 ; revenue for the past year, L 953.347 ; cost of working same period. L 592. 829 ; leaving a profit of L3fi i,525. The, tables relating to the' Post Office Saving Banks show that while there was 1d,325,852 deposited, tl 422 5 Q 9 was withdrawn during the year, and the sura still standing to the credit of all accounts was L1.47<t,950, or an average of L 25 11s 5 1 to each account In Private Saving Banks the amount deposited f>r the vear was 1.273,330 ; ami the withdrawals, L 244.255 ; while the ro f al, amount to credit of depositors was L 361.097. The total acreage of land sold -Hiring the year was 135.512 acres, and cash received L 209 004 : under the deferred payment system, 83.930 aeres were take i up. and 122,10' acres reserved or otherwise disposed of without sale, since 'he foundation of the Colony, 17 237,143 acres have been alienated from tin- Cmwn Of P-intihg establishments there ar'e 106, employing 1779 hands ; 41) Flax Mills, employ 284 ; 131 il a. employ 450; 79 Aeraied Water Manufa - tores, employ 228 ; 99 Breweries, employ 520 ; and 84 Quartz fjMines, Jemploy 1147.
