HOSPITAL BAZAAR.
The Gift Auction Bazaar, held in the Town Hall, Clyde, in aid of the Dunstan District Hospital, on Wednesday last, was a most unqualified success, and is a practical illustration of the true Christian benevolence of the people. To relieve the Institution of the heavy load of debt, with which it was burdened a bazaar was suggesed, but the most sanguine never dreamt that the call would have been so liberally responded to, donations poured in from every quarter, and wh n the time arrived for the sale or ra-uer when '.he day of the fair came buyers presented themselves in cumbers 1 o no one particular part of the district can greater praise be given than another, each put its shoulder manfully to the wheel as if vieing wnli the other to do tl e most, Alexandia and its surroundings, Blacks, Ida Valley, all alike were in the Held and the result of the day showed their earnestness. It is an old true saying, that like begets like, and confidence begets confidence we don t know that ever confidence was lost in the institution, yet itcannot be gainsaid butof late a greater amount of interest has been taken in the Institution than has been for sometime pas;; thus evidencing a warmer feeling, and to this we ascribe the extremely liberal reponse made to the call for aid. do Dr Wardale, the Resident Surgeon there is but little doubt this change of feeling is to be traced in a very great measure, and with the general public and tlie patients. all of whom are loud in their praises of him we join in hoping that it may he long ere he severs his connection with the Institution and district. A word of praise to the managers of the bazaar is due, and in saying that thanks are due to the the energetic committee of ladies who fairly excelled themselves and to them every ou t the work -of arranging Ue | thousand and one articles that were given is to say but little, they thank is due. A special feature in the affair was a refre-hment booth, tea, c ffeo cakes, and sandwic.ea, being dispensed by a bevy of the fairest of the fair. Mr Fache brought it to a close by auctioning all the »r ides that remained unsold, and he succeeded in realizing, with the aid of a modicum of good humored chaff, fair prices The total realised was over £l5O, which together n ß „u 13ldy will make thu respectable t t d of £3OO. [ln our next issue a full list of the contributtons will be given.]
