Beneath the nil© .of men entirely just The pen is mightier thar sword.
The trouble that so seriously exercised the minds of both County ratepayers and Councillors, has at last found its solution by the resignation of seven out of eight of the Councillors. Throughout, from the very commencement the ratepayers have, to say the least of it. been very easy going, and by their inanity havegivenatacit consent to the whole proceedings. The question now is, will it be wise to maintain the same indifference in the future. The want of a healthy interest in County matters by the ratepayers brought about the past trouble, and if now when the opportunity isgiven.it is not taken advantage of, we can expect in the future but a repetition. From certain signs, however, it appears some of the ratepayers, at all events, are about to throw off the shackles of indifference, Requisitions are in course of a signature to Mr W. Fraser, also to Mr Stronach, asking them to allow themselves to be nominated for one or other of the vacant seats, whist others are talked of. It is not to be expected that an entirely new Council will be the result of the coming elections, but the more new blood the better and the less likely will they be of falling into similar errors as did their predecessors. It is one of those universally recognised truths that people are governed just as they deserve to be. Well if the people of Vincent County desire to be in the future well governed they must now to a man come to the fore an I return only those men who a>e capable of good government, and whose honest convictions are not likely to be warped and biased by personal considerations.
