HOME AND FOREIGN. London, April 13. Joseph Brady, the lirao of the prisoners charged with the murder of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke, has been found guilty and sentenced to death. The trial of the dynamite conspirators, at Bow street Police Court, is still proceeding. Mr Poland, the prosecuting counsel, has further shown, in his opening speech, that Gallagher is the prime mover of the dynamite faction, and that he has for some time past been in correspondence wi'h Levy, Rcssa, and other leaders of the Irish revolutionary party in America. The trial of Mr Bradlaugh for the issue of certain alleged blasphemous books concluded to-day, and resulted in bis acquittal. St. I’ktkrsburo, April 14th. It has transpired that a revival of activity in Nihilist circles has recently been mani fested, and numerous arrests have been made by the police, April 16th. It is announced that the coronation of the Czar wdl be postponed for a fortnight—until 10th June. April 14th. Gallagher, brother of the man now under trial in London, who was recently arrested in Glasgow, has imimated to the police his willingness to turn informer against the dynamite conspirators. j April 16th. Bernard Gallagher, who was arrested at Glasgow in connection with the Fenian conspiracies in various cities in England, has been conveyed from Glasgow to London. It is, however, denied that he turned in former against alleged accomp'ioes. An official bulletin issued this morning regarding the health of the Queen ■announces that Her Majesty continues to improve. Her recovery from the accident at Windsor Castle is, however, slow, and it will be impossible for Her Majesty to stand or walk for some time. The foreman of the jury by which the prisoner Brady was convicted of the murder of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke, has received several threatening letters, and is under continual police protection In consequence of revelations which have been made by a prisoner now undergoing sentence of penal servitude regarding a case of murder and conspiracy at Clare Island, ten persons have been arrested by the police. At the trial of Brady at Dublin to-day the informers Carey and Farrell were crossexamined at length, but their previous evidence as to Brady’s guilt was in no way shaken. A photograph of Number One” was identified in Court to-day by Carey and Farrell. The tr al of the prisoner Brady for the murder of Lord Cavendish and Mr Bourke is still proc- edino at Dublin. Evidence was given yes'erday by independent witnesses, which fully confirms the statement of the informer Carey. Counsel tor the def nee is now endeavoring to prove an alibi on behalf of the prisoner. The six men—Norman, Gallagher, Wilson, Dalton, ECirton, and Ausburg—who were recently arrested in London, were ajain brought up at the Bow street Police Court to day, and charged with being in the unlawful possession of explosives and conS'dring to commit outrages. Mr Poland, in ! his opening ■ speech for the prosecution, I showed that the prisoners were connected 1 with Whitehead’s dynamite factory, re- 1 cently se-zed at Birmingham. The case is still proceiding. The London newspapers in their leading articles this morning, commenting upon the annexation of New Guinea by the Queensland Government, generally express doubt \ whether the Imperial Government will ap- j prove the action of the Colonial authorities. I The trial of Daniel Curley, the second of the prisoners charger! with the murder of Lord Cavend'sh aud Mr Bourke, was commenced in Dublin to-day. On the opening of the Court eight jurors who had been summoned wi re found to be absent, and were ordered to pay fines of £IOO each.
INTERCOLONIAL. Launceston, Bpril 14. Two youths named Ogden and Davis, have been committed for trial for the wilful murder of two men. Their victims were line repairers. A third man was scalped' The details of the crime are terribly atrocious, and the affair has caused much excitement here. The prisoners displayed perfect callousness when charged with the murder, April 17. It is reported that further attacks have been made uuon settlers in the neighbourhnod of Bpping Forest, but the statements require confirmation. The details which have transpired during the trial of the youths Ogden and Davis for the murders committed last week fully confirm the statements regarding the atrocity with which cold-blooded crimes were committed. Sydney, April 14 Information has been received that the Queensland Government took formal possession of New Guinea and hoisted the Union Jack there on the 4th inst. Melbourne, April 17. The Colonial Bank of Australia at Burnswick, two and a half miles from the city, was robbed to'day of £6OO. The theft was committed during office hours. The manager was momentarily absent, and upon his return found that a drawer had been unlocked and the money abstracted. It is believed the theif is a youth, but he has not up to the peesent time been arrested.
