PUBLIC MEETING.

A meeting was held in the Athenaeum »n Monday evening last to consider the advisability of forming a company for the purpose of starting a flour and oatmeal mill in the district. There was * large attendance of tradesmen and influential men of the town and surrounding neighborhood, many being unable to obtain seats; The meeting was opened by Mr T. H. 8011, baker, being voted to the chair, who briefly stated the object of the meeting, and called upon Mr R. L. Begg to road a communication from a gentleman in the Clutha district, offering to dispose of a complete flour mill plant, for LIOO. After which, Mr Begg pointed out the desirability of haying a mill erected in, or near the township of Clyde, as the present water supply for the inhabitants could, at a trifling expense, be made to form the motive power of a mill, powerful enough to supply the wants of a large area of cultivation. Messrs Masters, Dickie, Macginnis, Sims,, and several others spoke in favor of the project. The following resolutions were c tried That this meeting deem it desirable ithatj a flour mill should be erected in the . iatriot,* That a committee be formed to promote the object of tho meeting, consisting of Messrs Bell (Chairman), Masters, MoGinniss, Begg, C. Holden, and J. Butler, with power to add to th dr number. That the Committee convene a meeting, to be held on Ist May, to report progress. The meeting then closed by a hearty vote to tho Chairman. i
