DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Comnvtte of the above named Institution was held in the Committee room,' Town Hall, Clyde, on Monday evening last, at 8 p.m. Present : Messrs Naylor, (President), J. U. Cambridge, (Vice President)] and Holt, Sims, Maoginnis, J. E. Stevens, (Treasuer), and G. Fache, (Secretary.) The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Visiting Committee’s No. 1 report was received, amongst other matters it mentioned that Mr Jam-s MoNanghton, of Manuherikia brewery, had given half a ton of potatoes, and that Mr John Allen, of Manu'iei'ih a, also had given one hundred 1 weight and a half of onions to the institution. , .. The report No. 2 recommending payment of accounts for salaries, supplies, and contracts &c., amounting t0£127 10s lOd was read and received, included in the above was £l3 for insurance, painting contract £4O, and other amounts out of the ordinary. The Treasurer’s report for the quarter showing that considering all liabilities and assets, there was anebit balance 0f£9216 I, was read and received. Mr Hueston. Inspector of Works, reported on Mr A. Moore’s contract for painting the institution buildings, to the effect that the work had been efficiently done and good materials need. The Surgeon’s report as follows was read and received : Number of patients in the hospital, Ist March, 5; number since -admitted 9, number discharged 6, number remaining in 31st March, 8. A question arose as to how it was that two patients from the Cromwell district, one from the Morvern Hills Station, and one from Ardgour Station,.were in the institution. It was explained that both were admitted on tickets, and accordingly there was no right to ask any questions. Mr T. Sims was elected member of the Visiting Committee vice Mr Jeffery retiring. The committee appointed to report on the water supply question stated they were not yet ready with a report. Mr T Sims stated that complaints had been made to him by the Wardsman that some persons were in the habit of walking into tile wards at all hours, and interviewing the pa'ienfß, and had asked him for instructions how to act. It was stated that the rules to be observed by visitors w'ere on the painted board at the front gate of the institution, and it rested with the Wardsman to see the rules carried out ; but it was thought there were 1 ut few people in the district who would be guilty of such an impertinence as to walk into the wards without first seeing the Wardsman or Resident Surgeon. Mr Stevens’s notice of motion—That to relieve the finances, the Committee take steps for getting up an Auction Bazaar was now discussed, and at length it was decided that a bazaar be held on 24th May and that a sub-committee, consisting of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Messrs Attfield and Jeffery, be appointed to carry put all detail*.
