Great excitement prevailed in Calcutta on March sth, because of a proposed law giving native magistrates jurisdiction over whites in oerta'n cases. The Times correspondent says, if the oonoxious measure is passed 90 per cent, of the white Volunteers in Bengal will resign ns a protest against it. At a mass meeting held in Calcutta, violence towards the native magistrates were threatened. Ab-el-Kedir Pasha arrived at Tennare, Egypt, on March the sth, after severely defeating the false Prophet, who lost 20u0 men. Advices from Madagascar to February 26th announced the arrival of the French gunboat Vaudeville. Pour French-men ofwar had arrived in the northern part of the Island. The natives are excited, and are preparing to resist the French. James Elliott, pugilist, and Gere Dunn, both well-known sporting men, had a difficulty in Chicago Restaurant on March Ist, arising out of the Maoe-Slade visit, which resulted in Elliott beingso severely wounded that he died next day.
