The question of funds and the mode of collection was discussed, after which i: was resolved—That the leading residents in each district, lie addressed by letter, pointing out to them that for the want of a more general support being accorded the Committee by the public generally, the usefulness of the institution was much ini paired, and asking eacli and all to foirn Local Committees for the collection of funds. Resolved—That a Suh Committee, con suiting of Messrs Stevens, Holt, and Jeffery, he appointed to consider the question of water su pp>y. and to report to next meeting. In the meantime to arrange for a permanent supply to the institution. Resolved—That the Visiting Commit'ee confer with the Resident Surgeon re patient. C. Johnson. Resolved—That the Secretary get Resi dent Surgeon’s dwelling-house insured in the sum of £2OO. The Treasurer said the question of salaries paid to the Surgeon, also to the Wardsman and Matron, was worthy of some consideration Me said the present salaries—Surgeon’s £l5O, War.’sinan’s and Matron’s £oo—when taking into consideration their very general efficiency, were too low, and he thought if it was desired to retain their services they should be given an increase. After discussion, it was resolved—That the Surgeon’s salary ho increased to £2OO, and the Wardsman’s and Matron’s to £B4 per annum, to date from Ist January last As a special means of raising funds, it was thought the time was opportune for getting up a Gift Auction.
