EXTRAORDINARY SCENE IN A COURT.
East month in Sydney a most dastardly and ruffian y attempt to commit a criminal assault was made upon a young married won.au, whose husband was away at work at the tiiiie. A desperate struggle took place, the woman screaming fo ■ help, an<t the as sailaut trying to stifle her cries. In this endeavour he used the most brutal violence, and the unfortunate woman was soon reduced to a state of belp’e«sness. Mhe would undoubtedly have fallen a victim to the b>«tal lust of the fellow had it not been for her little boy, who ran out of the bouse and alarmed the neighbors, saying that a man had “ killed his niemma." They at once rushed into the house, when they found the unfortunate woman half strangled, and bearing marks on her face and her body of a most despeiato struggle. The man was soon seemed, and banned over to the police He was brought up at the Newtown Police Court, charged with attempting to commit a capital off nee, aud after evidence of the proserutiix and others had l«en given was fully committed to take his trial. While the case was proceeding an extract'd!* nary scene took place in Court. One •of the witnesses for the prosecution was in the box giving evidenc , when the husband of tire prosecutrix suddenly sprang up from where he was sitting, and crying aloud “ My God, I can't stand this any longer,” made a rush towards the prisoner and struck him a terrible blow in the face, which felled him like a bullock The police at once interfered, but it was much as they could do to separate the two men The prisoner’s name is Elliott.
