THE LATE CONCERT AT BLACKS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir—l am gl id to be able to inform you that the cone rt on the 28tb December was a success in more ways than one. Ist. The performers were all local, and gave entire satisfaction. All of them •id their level best. 2nd Considering the inclement weather and the fact that there was no • lance after the concert there was a very good attendance. The proceeds, the teacher te Is me, were £B, so that after expenses are paid, she will have a few pounds in hand for the library. I was delighted with tbe childrens’ songs, and they well deserved the encore they got. I see that tue writings of jottings from Blacks, in the Mount Ida Chronicle, characterises it as a failure. Well, 1 suppose he has been accustomed to the Philharmonic conearts in Dunedin, and so of course he is sure to disparage our poor efforts. I see he also says one ot the readings w«s indelicate. Well, I have racked my poor brains, but cannot remember anything in any of them that was so. There are some minds so constituted that they find harm in the beat of readings, but will sit and listen to any amount of ribaldry under the name of a comic song. The Rev. Mr Lothian presented the children with their prizes (books), and when the ladies had distributed the gifts off the Christ nas tree, their cup of happiness was full. The tree in itself was very nieriy decorated with flags, mottos, candles, and so on, and the ladies who got it up are so well pleased with their success that they intend having a larger one next Christmas. Wishing them every success in their kind undertaking, 1 am, &c., Paterfamilias.
