All unsuccessful attempt was made on November 13 to assassinate Junto Lawson in Dublin. A man whose name has not yet transpired was arrested when on the point of tiling a revolver at him. Intelligence has been received at Capetown of further severe fighting on Transvaal border between the Boers and the Natives. In the recent engagmeut the latter, under chief Monts'o, were defeated with loss, and the Boers Have now occupied the Montsios territory. it has now been ascertained that the name of the would-be assassin of Judge Lawson is Delaney. He is a convict on ticket-of-leave, and well known to the police The latter are sanguine that some valuable information will be obtained from the prisoner. The organisation of an expelition against the False Prophet and his followers has been completed, and a force of 10, QUO men has set out for Soudan. Contrary to the understanding which was arrived at'last month, the Commission of Inquiry appointed to conduct the prosecu tion of Arabi now decline to allow the lat tcr’s counsel the right of cross-i ximination the witnesses who give evidence for the prosecution. Trouble is feared with the Mormons at Utah, and the military garrison at Salt Lake has been strengthened.
