DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of Management was held in the Committee Room, Town Hall, on Monday evening last, the 6th inst. Present: Messrs. J. E Stevens, Vice President ; Atllield, Beck, Clark, Cambridge, Holt, J. S. Dickie, Treasurer; and Geo. Pacho, Secretary. The minutes of previous meeting, were read and confirmed. Letter from W. G. Roes, Esq,, covering his resignation of the office of President, explaining as the cause, his inability to attend the meetings in consequence of the distance from his home to Clyde ; but conveying the assurance that so long as he resides in the district he will still continue to take an interest in the institution and will not relax his efforts in the collection of subscriptions ; but that in all probability he would be leaving the district about the end of January next. Resolved, on the motion of Mr. Thomas Sims, and seconded by Mr. Ja". Holt : That the resignation of Mr. W. G. Rees, bo accepted. Resolved: That the Secretary be instructed, while conveying the above resolution, to assure Mr. Rees that the committee deeply regret his severance from the management of the institution ; and that they take this opportunity of thanking him for the active interest he has always taken in the welfare ot the institution and in the collection of funds. The Visiting Committee reported that everything in connection with the Hospital was working most satisfactorily, and that the patients one and all speak most favourably ot Dr. Wardale. They recommended that the Alexandra ward should be limewashed inside, and the whole of the outer parts of the building painted. Resolved : That the report be, adopted ; and that alternative tenders be called for painting the outside of the building with hematite and oil paints. Tenders to close on Monday, 4th December. The Visiting Committee’s N'o. 2 report recommending payment of accounts for the past month, amounting to £39 IGs 7d, was read and received. The Surgeon’s report, as follows, was read and received : Number of patients in Hospital on the Ist October, 4 ; admitted during the month, 7 ; discharged during the month, 5 ; remaining in hospital on October 31, 6. The following tenders were then accepted : Wm. Holt, coals ; T. H. Bell, bread ; C. Holden, milk; Attfield, and Co, mo it ; B. Naylor, groceries, wines, and spirit?, &c. Mrs. W R. George, through Mr. Attfield, offered the use of an invalid chair for the patient Murdoch. Resolved : That the offer be accepted with thanks, and that the Visiting Committee be empowered to have wheels fitted to same so that Murdoch could, on fine days, be wheeled out into the open air. The question of dues owing by , Murdoch cropped up when it was explained that he had paid for some time at the rate of £2 per week, he being a non-subscriber to the Institution ; that afterwards he became a subscriber by paying the usual fee, since when he. had paid at the rate of thirty shillings per week. After discussion and reviewing the whole question it was resolved : That in consideration of Murdoch’s lengthened detention in the Institution, that he be allowed three months’ free of cost. Mr. Attfield was elected a member of the Visiting Committ e, vice Mr J. U. Cambridge, retiring. The Visiting Committee were authorised to take such steps as they may deem necessary to supplying the institution with water from the Hospital race. The financial position of the institution then came under consideration. The Secretary said it was absolutely necessary that some effort be made to collect funds, as at the present time there was a debit balance ot some £l2O. After discussion it was resolved to adjourn the meeting till the 20th inst., when the whole subject should be considered. The meeting then adjourned.
