At Christchurch, last Saturday night, a heavy frost did very serious damage to the early vegetables and fruit. Great energy is being displayed in Christchurch in connection with the League for promoting the construction of the railway to the West Coast. Several meetings of public bodies were held on Saturday to appoint delegates to the League. A ccmpensatiou claim by G. H. Moore, of Glaumark, for land taken for the WaikariHurunui extension was set down for hearing last Monday, at Christchurch, but lapsed through the discovery that the description of the land taken as given in the G iverument Gazette was totally unintelligible. A publican was lined £5 at the Christchurch Police Court for supplying liquor on Sunday to a tnan.wuo said ho was a traveller, but really lived only two miles away.
