Rob the Rakter, bred by Robert Muir, E?q., Argowan, North Taieri, Foaled in 1873 ; got by the celebrated horse Emperor, bred by W. H. Valpy, Esq., ont of Maggie Lauder, bred by John Barr, Esq. Emperor, by Napoleon, imported, ont of Nancy, imported, bred by Mr. Findlay, Easterhill, by Bailieston, Glasgow. Maggie Lauder by Prince Charlie, bred by Mr Anderson, Wigtonshire, imported to Melbourne by Messrs. J. and M. Mackintosh, ont of Blanche, imported by the late D, Nesbit, Esq. Young Emperor full brother to Rob the Ranter took first at the Oamaru Show in 1875, and first prize at the Molyneux Show in 1878. Nancy, own sister to Rob the Ranter,has obtained two first prizes at the Taieri Show and was bred by Robert Muir. The first prize dry mare at Oamaru in 1878 was own sister to Rob the Ranter and'also bred by Mr. Muir. Rob the Ranti-A is a dark bay horse, stands 164 hands high, of a quiet docile temper, and has proved himself a sure foal getter. He was exhibited "at the Taieri Show in 1874, where he gained first prize, beating nine others ; jin 1875 he was placed second, beating * seven others. When three years old, he was placed third At the Waikouaiti and Shag Valley in 1876. When four years, he took first prize at the same Show in 1877, beating five others, and in 1878 he was awarded first prize over seven others. At Blueskin the same year was placed first, beating six other competitors. He also carried off the sweepstake at Blueskin the same year for the best animal on the ground. In 1886, he took first prize at the Waikouaiti and Shag Valley Show 5 first prize at the Blueskin Show, and the champion prize for the best representative- of the draught breed, and third prize at the Metropolitan Show the same year. Maggie Lauder, his dam, has been the winner of sixteen prizes, ten of them being first prizes in Otago. Thus showing Rob the Ranter on both sides to have come from the most successful prize stock exhibited in Otago—a position which he emminently maintained. They have proved themselves superior as weight-carry-ing roadsters, carriage horses, and coachers to the stock of any other horse that has ever travelled the Blacks district, being always saleable and commanding the highest prices. His sire, Sir Walter Scott, imporwas got by the Duke of Hamilton’s champion horse, the original Sir Walter Scott. Dam Blossom, g dam Charlotte, by Lincoln Hero, imported ; g.g. dam Grey Charlotte, the great prize-taker in Tasmania, got by Grey Champion, imported; dam Black ted from Scotland by Doders and Hartwell, Champion, mare by Diamond, imported. Young Locbaivar gained the following prizes as a two year old—First at Hobart Town, first at Melton Mowbray, and first at Richmond. Young Lochnivar has proved himself a sure foal getter; Terms ; LI 10s payable on Ist February, 1883; and LI 10s if proved to be in foal. Groom’s fee ss, payable at first service.
