Manuring,—On the outside page is an article taken from the Australasian that is ■well worthy of perusal by our farmer readers. Hansard.—We have to acknowledge receipt of batch of Parliamentary papers, bills, and numbers of Hansard from the Government Printer. D. J.C. —A meeting of the Dnnstan Jockey Club will beheld in the Library, on July 31. As the business is of importance a good attendance is requested. A Concurr at Blacks.—A concert and ball at Ophir, in aid of the funds of the Dnnstan District Hospital, is announced fo Friday the 25th of August. Another Mystery.— The skeleton of a human being was found on Sunday by Mr Michael Casey in the bed of the Molyneux River, about a mile and a-half above the Beaumont punt. On receiving information, the police visited the spot, and had tlie remains, which were entirely beyond identifi cation, collected and removed to the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel. Dramatic Entertainment at Alexandra.—An amateur dramatic performance is to be held this Friday evening, the 28th inst., at Alexandra, in aid of the local cricket club. Besides the novelty of the entertainment, there will be several lad-es and gentlemen new to an Alexandra audience who will appear, the attractions are therefore sufficient to draw a full house - Photography!- Messrs. Nicholas and Dougall, photographers, who for the past two months have had their studio at Clyde, announce in another column that they will open at Ophir (Blacks No. 1), on Friday the 28th inst. From the numerous specimens in family groups, cartes de visite, and views that we have seen produced by them, we unhesitatingly pronounce them first-class artists, thoroughly up to all the mysteries of the photographic art. All of the residents of Blacks and Tinkers districts, who design a faithful mature should take ad van. tape of the visit of these gentlemen. Marriage.—From one of our Wellington exchanges,' we learn that McDonald Petrie, M.A., the well-known Inspector of Schools, was on the 27th ult, married in- Wellington to Miss Mary Cherritt, eldest daughter of Mr J. J. Cherritt, of that city, and who was for some years employed by the Government in the “Bills" office at the Parlia-
meutary Buildings. Miss Chorritt is one of the most accomplished pianists in the Colony, as well as a clever vocalist, and, if she should reside in Dunedin, musical oir. cles there will obtain a most valuable reinforcement.
Chubck Attendance.—At St. Paul’s Church, Dunedin, last Sunday morning, there was a remarkably small attendance of the congregation, evidently owing to the inclement weather. In the course of an eloquent sermon the Right Rev. the Bishop of Dunedin referred to “ the miserable array of empty benches,” and expressed surprise at the absence of heads of families, who had excused themselves for non-attend-ance at Divine servioe'meroly because some gentle showers had fallen. The Bishop adversely compared the conduct of the absentees with the proceedings of four thousand men, besides women and children, who had continued with Christ three days, thereby causing Him to have compassion upon them and to perform His second great miracle of feeding a multitude with a few loaves and fishes-
