THE AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND
London, July 20. The Australian cricketers commenced another match to-day against an Eleven of Yorkshire, the scene of the contest being on this occasion Middlesborough. The Australians were all disponed of for 222. Macdonuell played a splendid innings for 82 (caught and bowled); Murdoch, who was bowled for 44, also batted well. When stamps were drawn for the day the Yorkshiremen had put together 57 runs for the less of five wiohets. The weather during the day was very fine, and there was a very large attendance. July 21. The match between the Australian cricketers and the Eleven of Yorkshire was resumed at Middlesborough to-day. The Home team continued their first innings and were all disposed of for a total of 129. J. Grimshaw was the highest scorer with 39. Garrett bowled splendidly for the Australians. Yorkshiremen being 93 behind the Australians followed on and went in for .heir second innings. At the conclusion of the day’s play they had lost one wicket for r.bree runs. July 22. The cricket match at Middlesborough— Australians v. Yorkshire—resulted co-day in a victory for the former by seven wickets The Australians required 48 runs to win, and these were obtained for the loss of three wickets. McDonnell was not out with 23 ; he batted splendidly and nevergavoa chance. The weather was very fine to-day, but the wicket was not i» good order.
