At the Land Board, yesterday, the application of E. A. Dooley for license to work coal mine at Kawarau was granted. A similar license to Geo. Ludeman was de‘ dined. A letter was received from miner’s at Drybread requesting to have outlet for tailings reserved from sale. Referred. to surveyor when land being surveyed for "ale The City of Perth sustained hut, trifling injury whilst aground at Timarn. The Barque Fontenany has arrived from London. The Gold Duties Abolition Bill was read a second time last night, Messrs. Pyke and Fergus both spoke in favor of the Bill.

A serious accident occurred at Oaraaru breakwater last night to Mr Derritt. He was standing on the breakwater, when three trucks ran off the line and threw him over on the rocks below, fracturing his skull badly. He is not expected to recover. News form Roxburgh and Balclntha says that the Molyneux was yesterday in high flood. At former place the river rose sixteen feet and did great injury to miners generally. The Newcastle miners have rejected the proposal to terminate strike. Mr Bracken has given notice in the House to ask whether the Minister of Education does not consider the Otago Education Board has exceeded its powers in dismissing a teacher for writing a letter to a newspaper.
A man named Ribbert, 73 years of age. an old settler at Wakapuaka, near Nelson, was yesterday found dead in bed with his throat cut. He had been lately suffering from neuralgia. Henry Bryant, the Ape informant, was committed for trial for forgery. Judge Billings of Victoria is dead.
