THE AUSTRALIANS IN|ENGLAND

London, June 8.

The cricket match between the Australian Eleven and Eleven of Nottingham County was commenced to-day at Nottingham. The attendance at the match was very large, hut the .weather was showery, and the wicket was not in good order. The fielding of the Englishmen was very good. The Australians went in first, and were all disposed of for 142. Blackbam was not out for 56, and Palmer l.h.w. for 20, At the conclusion ot the day’s play the Home team had lost two wickets for 4i runs, June 9. Owing to the heavy rain, which has rendered the ground unfit for cricket, the match at Nottingham could not be resumed today. June 10. The cricket match, Australians v. Nottingham, was resumed to-day at Nottingham. The weather was tine, but the wicket was heavy, owing to the rain which fell yesterday. The attendance of spectators was enormous. The Home team resumed their first innings, which closed for a total of 110 runs, as aaainst 142 ot the Australians. The latter went in for their second innings, and were all disposed of for 1(16, B inner being the highest scorer with 39 (caught). When time was called, the Nottingham Eleven had scored 12 runs for the loss of one wicket. The match was consequently drawn, the Home team requiring 127 runs to win. A misunderstanding occurred during the progress of the play to-day, owing to the accidental exclusion of the Australians from the luncheon tent. Murdoch twice refused to accept the apologies of the Nottingham Committee for the occurrence. June 12. Murdoch, the captain of the Australian criketing team, has written a letter to the Press with reference to the circumstances under which the Australian cricketers were excluded from the luncheon tent at the Nottingham match. In his communication he explains the manner in which the {misunderstanding occurred,, "and defends his action on the occasion.
