RAPE AND LINSEED GROW--ING.

Tin; farmers of Otago and Southland have an excellent opportunity of establishing :i n-'w industry in Uio growth of rape and linseed. Messrs F. Singer and Co. oiler g eat facilities to those who have a notion of embarking in the new pursuit. They find tiro greatest difficulty, now they have fairly established their oilmills, in securing sufficient rape and linseed with which to carry on operations ; and in order to induce the cultivation of those, Messrs Singer now announce that they are prepared to rent 1000 acres of land. They wish to obtain this land from as many different farmers as possible ; for. having once shown a landowner the advantage of such cropping, they are confident ho will be only too willing afterwards to engage in it for himself, Messrs Singer and (Jo. will take the land for rape seed at once, and hold it until November next. They will agree with the farmer for the labour, but will supply the seed themselves, and take the crop when ready. This being in November, the farmer may then make use of Ids land for grass or turnip", so that he docs not lose the use of it for the season. Messrs Singer and Coare greatly impressed with the capabilities of Otago and Southland for the cultivation of these crops, which came to greater perfection here than in Austria ; and they promise to take the seed in illimitable quantities, not alone for their own purposes, but if those can be fully supplied (and they to complain that in the meantime they are far from being so), for export as well. We are confident that the subject is well worthy the attention of growers. —Qlnqo Daily Times.
