CROMWELL.
An accident, which resulted fatally, happened at Burnt Cottage Creek, near Cromwell, on Saturday last, at about 4 p.m., to a man named James Thomas, in the employ of Mr John Perriam, Lowborn. The man Thomas was going his rounds delivering goods, and when driving down the creek road the spring-cart capsized, and Thomas falling under the edge of the cart lying on his chest, and when found was quite dead. The body was taken to Perriam’s Hotel; and at an inquest held on Monday, before M. H. Behrens, J.P., and a Jury of thirteen, a verdict of suffocation was returned. Thomas was an old man, about 52 years of age, was of eccentric habits, having a craving for astronomy Some time ago he wrote a letter to the Witness "on the above named subject, and was severely handled by “Givis,” when poor Thomas gave up his pet hobby. Thomas was well liked in and around Cromwell, and they paid a last tribute to his remains on Tuesday last. A large concourse of people following bis remains to the Cromwell Cemetery.
