BLACKS CONCERT.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — The concert and tea party in connection with the Presbyterian church, which came off on the 6th instant was a great success, the tea being everything that could be desired. The tables (two in number) were beautifully decorated and fairly groaned beneath the w eight of the good things upon them. The Ladies, Mminutes, Mclntosh, Smith, Cottingham, Alexander, Chappie, and Fitzgerald, who provided the tables deserve great praise for the way it was carried it out. It was a treat to look around the tables and see the bright smiling faces sitting there. The room was tastefully decorated with arches of evergreens and flowers, and the chandeliers were hung with them. The word Welcome, was worked in flowers and evergreens, and hung at the top of the room. Altogether, as a little boy I spoke to sai l, “Ahraon, but it was grand.’ - The concert was one of the best I’ve been at in Blacks, for all the singer’s were, with one exception, local, which has never been the case before here, they therefore deserve the greater credit. We had a splendid recitation from a lady, and some songs and speeches from some gentlemen, who came from Alexandra, and who have the heartiest thanks of the Ladies’ Committee.

A presentation was also made to Mr Hutson, who is leaving the district to finish his studies at the University. On the whole, we had a very enjoyable evening, and I for one, will fre-ly give my money to have such another. The Ladies tell me they intend having one every year if possible. There was one thing I have approved of very much—there was no dance at the end of the concert. Now, I think a dance after anything got up for a Church is scarcily appropriate, therefore, this is a step in the right direct on.—l am etc Resident.
