CONCERNING MINING RESERVES.

The Maniototo County Council have carried the following resolutions on the subject of mining reserves:— “That this Council, having given close attention to the subject, and finding that it cannot comprehensively deal with the question of mining reserves, owing to the fact that auriferous land in isolated spots covers nearly the whole county, nevertheless is capable of indicating certain special raining reserves within the county' which should be declared such as soon as possible.’

“ That this ouncil farther considers that, in order to prevent alienation of auriferous lands and mining outlets outside the boundaries of any such reserves, this Council should be constituted a hoard of advice, which shall give its assent before any such land be alienated.”

“That the Chairman be requested to forward copies of these resolutions to the Minister of Lands and the member for the district, with such explanations as are necessary to indicate the views of the Council on the whole question.” “That the mining reserves within the county asked for in the foregoing resolutions bo as follow: —Mount Ida, 20,000 acres; St. Balkans and Cambrian, 10,000; Kyeburn, 6000; Sowburn, 2001); Hamilton, 4000; Serpentine, 2000; Hill’s Creek, 2000; Garibaldi, 500 acres.”

“ That this Council’s recommendation of the boundaries of the special mining reserves embodied in these resolutions bo understood to depend entirely upon assent being given to the Council’s request that it be constituted a board of advice in connection with the disposal of lands outside these reserves.”
