OUR CAMBRIANS CORRESPONDENT.
Tho holidays being over, all have sot in steadily to work, and tho supply of water is still good, owing to the frequent showers of rain wo have had lately in thfs locality. As no sports are got up in this place, I have nothing in that line to report, which accounts for my long silence. Although we have none here, wo are surrounded by any quantity, as the saying goes, so that the pleasure-seekers of Christmas and New Year need not go far to enjoy themselves. In close proximity is our bigger brother, St Bathans, with whom wo are hand in hand in affairs of that sort—where there is the' anuual race-meeting, and Good Templar’s pic-nic. Both were well conducted and very enjoyable this year. Coming your way, and within easy reach, we have the Blacks anuual races, and the ever-enjoyable Matakanui races, so that we have quite enough to patronise. It was generally supposed that Cambrians would be to the front at these meetings, but the Fates ordered otherwise However, better luck next time. Arrangements have been made with the doctor residing at Blacks to visit here regularly. No doubt your readers are aware that Major Keddell is in charge of this district. In connection with this matter a petition is being numerously signed throughout all parts of the district, praying that a R.M. and Warden may be appointed to reside at Naseby as formerly. Government are a little too saving. That they may save LI the subject is in many cases put to the expense of Lo nr LlO, which cannot be called sound economy.
And now a word or two about the weather, which, to say the least of it, cannot be called summer weather. High winds have prevailed with downpours of rain and hail-storms, the mountains putting on a white cap occasionally. It is aiso very cold for tho season. To-day has been more like summer, so perhaps we are to have a change.
