Mr Feraud has succeeded in producing Aromatic Tonic Bitter Wines which arc not only agreeable beverages, but have also excellent medicinal properties. The following is Professor B ack’ report : —-
I h;ivo examined for Mr .1 T>. Fcra"d. of Moute Christo, Clyde, Otago, two samples of Aromatic Tonic Bitters, with the following result No. 527 is a sherry colored, and No. S2Sis a port wine rod colored liquid ; they are both perfectly transparent showing the purity of tire water and other substances employed in their manufacture. These two beverages have a slight acid chemical reaction, and possess an agreeable cool bitter taste, blended with a sensation of sweetness, arising from the snehavmc matter of the fruit of which they are the fermented extract. 1 have also examined the aromatic and other flavoring substances used by Hr Feraudin their manufacture, and from the proportions in which they are blended " ilh the fruit wine, they must lie pronounced perfectly safe, amt free from anything like deleterious properties. I consider this wine, therefore, an agreeable and perfectly safe beverage, and when diluted with three or four times their bulk of water, they will make a good cooling summer drink. JAMES G. BLACK.
