It is reported that one of the largest mercantile firms in Dunedin has been floated at home as joint stock, company. A fire broke ont about 5 this morning at South Dunedin whereby three line shops and houses were destroyed. By a lire in Symomla street, Auckland, this morning three houses wore destroyed. The insurances amount to £3,560.

News has reached Adenjdftho’Uerith of captain Chas .T. IJrownvigg and'four of the crew of Her Majesty’s ship London, the store vessel stationed at Zanzibar, whilst endeavouring to effect the capture of an Arab slave dhow. Captain Brownrigg, in charge of the ship’s pinnace fully manned, came up with the siavcr off the Afiican coast near Zanzibar, and at once attacked her, the crew of the dhow offered a strong resistance and desperate fighting ensued, resulting]!!! Capt. Brownrigg and tour of his men being killed Several of the crow were also wounded The slaver succeeded in beating off the pinnace, an 1 escaped.
