Fraser. Mr MaeKollnr- though why ho should go so far out of his way to wiita to us, or for the matter of that to any o her newspaper, anil retail a suuii private conveisation, i soept it be to put mi record an evidence of his hatred of Mr Pyke, we will not say -te'ls us and our readers that, in 1877 Mr Pyke voted against the reduction of the miner’s right. Mr MacKellnr omits however a vital part of the argument—the teas ins assigned for bo voting. In om next week's issue wo will afford space for the same, and allow the momentous questisn to remain where it now is. We row come to Mr Fraser, who accuses Mr Pyke of making at his meetings at Alexandra and Roxburgh the definite statement, etc., et*. We scarcely think Mr Fraser is tight in.
this. From oar notes wo find that .Mr Pyke, in referring to the sale or re leasing of the pastoral runt, said—" The Waste Lands Committee of the House of' Representatives, of which Mr Rolleston as the Minister of Lands was one, and who moreover had the nominating of the Committee made pertain recommendations, which it was understood would be carried out hy Government ; but what do we find t Why that these recommendations are being ignored by Mr Rolieaton, and that he intends selling in February next the leases of the runs f orten years, with a pre-emptive right over 320 acres for homestead. Thus says the advertisement notifying the sale, and under Which is the signature of Mr W. Rolleston What does this mean? Why, that the squatters can in every subdivision of the runs get 320 acres, whether lie gets one or ten, while you cannot get an inch ■without competition.” This is what Mr Pyke said.
Mr Pyko simply exposes what is propose I te be done by the Minister of Lands, **> d adds that to prevent it he wi I convene an indignation meeting in Dunedin ; while Mr Fraser reads the law and says it is nothing to him if it is broken, but such is the law.
