Mr Pyke addressed a numerously attended meeting at Roxburgh, on Monday evening 1 st, neaily 2JO persons in the hj ill Mr Manual proposed, and Mr Cormiek seconded, Mr Mervyn supported, a vote—- “ That this meeting has full confi lencs in Mr V. Pyke ns a fit and proper representative, and pledges itself to secure his election and return. “An amendment was move 1 by Mi- Savage, and seconded by Mr A. M’Pherson—“That Mr Fraser is a fit and proper person to represent the district. On a show of hands, four were held up for the amendment, while for the original motion a perfect forest of hands were liehl up.
