General Notices. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE DUNSIAB DISTRICT. Gentlemen,— Encouraged by the confidence reposed in me during many years, and emboldened by the very numerous assurances of support which 1 have received from all parts of the district, I announce myself as a candidate for your suffrages at the ensuing general election. 1 shall take an early opportunity of addressing you at the various centres of population. In the meantime, I beg to present to you my political card. I am in favor of— The sub-division of the runs, with provisions against dummyism and double holdings. The severance of all agricultural land from the runs when re-leased, so that it may always bo open for sale or selection. The constitution of hundreds of large extent around every block, so that settlers may have free land to run stock upon. The reservation from sale of rim containing auriferous land, and the conservation of the gold-miner’s rights and privileges. The promotion of inland communication by the construction of railways from the coast to the interior. The restoration of the embezzled Land Fund to this island; The encouragement of local industries by a wise and judicious re-adjust-ment of the tariff. The appliance of Government aid to the development of our auriferous resources. The abolition of the gold duty, and the reduction of charges for miners’ rights and Warden’s Court certificates. The amendment of the licensing laws so as to bring them into accordance with the popular will. The establishment upon a sound basis of an educational system which shall be full, free, and fair.

The decentralisation of political power, and the adjustment of local government, so that the colony shall no longer be ruled from a distant centre. The reform of the Legislative Council by substituting popular elections for the present nominee system. The establishment of direct steam communication with Great Britain, T hese, gentlemen, are the principles 1 entertain and advocate.
