FERAUD, LICENSED DISTILLER NDER the regulations of “The Distillation Act, 1868,” takes the present opportunity of informing residents of the Northern Goldfields and the general public that his factory (being replete with every convenience, with the addition of a first-class still), ho is now turning out an article not to he equalled. J. D. Feraud received the following awards at the Sydney International KxlUbltton, IST3-81. competing with the world First class of Merit, Constant?* Wine, Peppermint, Lemon Syrup ; Second Class of Merit, Limejuice Cordial, Ginger Wine, (.harry Brandy; bird Class of Merit, Ginger Brandy, Burgundy Wine, Raspbei ry "Vinegar, and Aniseed Liquer. Awards received at the Melbourne International Exhibition, 1880-81 ; First Class of Merit, Raspberry Vinegar, Peppermint and Cloves; Second Class of Merit, Ginger Wine, Aniseed Liquer and Cloves. Awards received at the Dunedin Industrial Exhibition, 1881:-First Class of Merit, Constantin Wine, Burgundy Wine, Ducal Grape Wine, MahigaAVine, Frontignae Wine, Raspberry Vinegar, Apple Jelly and Fruit Jelly. J. D. Feraud, manufacturing ah the Wines, Liquors and Cordials him self, the public will be assured that his products will be free from any mercenaiy manipulation. Mr Feraud has succeeded in producing Aromatic Tonic Bitter Wines which are not only agreeable beverages, but have also excellent medicinal properties. The following is Professor Black’ report;— “ University, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand Laboratory. CLYDE, Class—Beverages, November sth, 1875.
I have examined for Mr J. D. Feraud, of Monte Christo, Clyde, Otago, two samples of Aromatic Tonic Bitters, with the following result No. 82“ is a sherry colored, and No. 82Sia a port wine red colored liquid ; they are both perfectly transparent showing the purity of the water and other substances employed in their manufacture. These two beverages have a slight acid chemical reaction, and possess an agreeable cool bitter taste, blended with a sensation of sweetness, arising from the sacharine matter of the fruit of which they are the fermented extract. I have also examined the aromatic and other flavoring substances used by Mr Feraud in their manufacture, and from the proportions in which they are blended with the fruit wine, they must be pronounced perfectly safe, anrl free from anything like deleterious properties. I consider this wine, therefore, an agreeable and perfectly safe beverage, and when diluted with three or four times their hulk of water, they will make a good cooling summer drink. JAMES G.
