Royal Duke won the drat prize when a three year old colt in Dunedin, and tire second prize against all comers at the Clutha. At the Agricultural Show, Dunedin, he also gained the prize as a three year old colt One of his foals, shown in Tokomairiro last year, gained the first prize against numerous competitors. Royal Duke was got by Champion (well known to be the best horse imported to this colony), out of the celehr ited mare Jessy, imported in 18C3, by Me srs Emmery and Straglun, from Tasmania. Securely fenced and well watered paddocks, the best in the district, provided for mares at Blacks and Ben Lomond is a beautiful dark bay with black points ; was foaled 23th February,' ISG9 ; stands 164 h«nds high; sire, Sir Benjamin. Sir Benjamin by the imported horse Ben Lomond. Sir Benjamin’s dam was imported from Scotland by Richard Brodie, Esq ; Young Bon Lomond’s dam, Blossom, was bv Messrs MTntosh'a imported horse, Prince Charlie; Blossom’s dam by Mr R. Broriie’s imported mare Noll. This shows that Young Ben Lomond is bred from imported stock, both sire and dam’s side. His stock have taken first prizes at the Blueskin Annual Show 1873, 1871, and 1 75, against all comers. A one year old filly by him took first prize at Palmerston, in 1876. Ben Lomond took first prize against all comers at Blacks Annual Show, 1881; also did some of his stock take first and second prizes at the same show. Last year,- a yearling colt, and a three-year unbroken filly charged hands at LijO each. These facts speaks for, themselves. He is a splendid worker and a sure foal-getter.
