Mr Feraud has succeeded in producing Aromatio Tonic Bitter Wines which are not only agreeable beverages, but have also excellent medicinal properties. Tin? following is Professor Slack’ report:— 11 University, Dunedin, Otago. New Zealand Laboratory. Class—Beverages.
November sth, 1375. I have examined for Mr ,J D. Ferand, of Monte Christo, Clyde, Otago, two samples of Aromatic Tonic Bitters, with the following result:—No. 827 is a sherry colored, and No. 828 is a port wine rod colored liquid ; they are both perfectly transparent showing the purity of the water and other substances employed in their manufacture. These two beverages have a slight acid chemical reaction, and possess an agreeable cool bitter taste, blended with a sensation of sweetness, arising from the sacharino matter of the fruit of which they are the fermented extract. I have also examined the aromatic and other flavoring substances used by Mr Ferand in their manufacture, and from the proportions in which they aro blended v ilh the fruit wine, they must be pronounced perfectly safe, and free from anything like deleterious properties. I consider this wine, therefore, an agreeable and perfectly safe beverage, and when diluted with three or four times their bulk of water, they will make a good cooling summer drink. JAMES G.
