PUBLIC MEETING.

A well-attended public meeting was held in the Committee Room of the Clyde Library on Tuesday evening, to co"sider the question of removing the race course and grand stand, and other business connected with the Jockey Club. Ur Leahy occupied the chair, and explained the o' jects of the meeting. The unanimous’y expressed opinion of the meeting was that the present, racecourse was too far out of the town, and thatas the railway was surveyed through it, all idea of improving or making anything out of it was at an end, and that it behoved the Jocky Club, in their own interest and for the greater convenience and comfort of the people, to select an .ther course. After further discussion, it was resolved unanimously—“ That this meeting, considering the long distance be. ween the present Dunstan race course and the town of Clyde, deem it advisable to select a more suitable area ; and that a committee of the following gentlemen, viz., Messrs Macgeorge, Atltiehl, Dickie, Wolford and Cambridge bj appointed to select a new course, and to obtain the necessary consent of Iho trustees to remove the Grand Stand building to the area selected.” To cover incidental expences in connection with above, the sum of £2 Is was collected in the mom.
