Before assistance could be obtained (says the Bomb y fitiz-cte) fifty-foar of the prisoner! had managed to escape, and befon leaving the gaol tliey T entered tin guard-room and toot with them all available'imns. The report of ihei escape soon spread through the station, and by half past 4 p.m tire Is Lancers (stationed here), togeth a with the mounted police, were o their track, accompanied by Sudde Tu'cokdar(commissioner). Anns wen feelv used by the prisoners, and tin soldiers and police had to clefem themselves by firing and cutting them down. By G p.m. the whole of ill prisoners were rec pinred —m ist o them severely wounded. One police officer was killed.
