Foaled in 1873, got by the celebrated horse Emperor, bred by W. H. Valpy, Esq., out of Maggie Lauder, bred by John Barr, Emperor, by Napoleon, imported, out of Nancy, imported, bred by Mr Findlay, Easterhill, by Bailieston, Glasgow. Maggie Lander, by Prince Charlie, bred by Air Anderson, Wigtonshire, imported to Melbourne by Messrs J. and M. Mackintosh, out cf Blanche, imported by the late D. Kesbit, Esq. Young Emperor full brother to Rob the Ranter took first at the Oamaru Show in 1875, and first prize at the Molyneux Show in 1878. Nancy, own sister to Rob the Ranter, has obtained two first prizes at the Taieri Show and was bred by Mr Robert Muir. The first prize dry mare at Oamaru in 1878 was own sister to Rob the Ranter, and also bred by Mr Muir. Rob the Ranter is a dark bay horse, stands hands high, of a quiet docile temper, and has proved himself a sure foal getter. He was exhibited at the Taieri Show in 1874, where he gained first prize,, beating nine others ; in 1875 he was placed second, beating seven others. When three years old, he was placed third at the Waikouaiti and Shag Valley Show in 1876. When four years old, he took first prize at the same Show in 1877, beating five others, and in 1878 he was awarded first prize over seven others. At Blueskin the same year be was placed first, beating six other competitors. He also caried off the sweepstake at Blueskin the same year for best animal on tho ground. In 1879 he was awarded third prize at the Metropolitan Show, Dunedin, beating Mr Grant's imported horse and several other renowned prize-takers; and he was a second at Waikouaiti the same year. In 1880, ho took first prize at the Waikouaiti and Shag Valley Show ; first prize at the Blueskin Show, and the champion prize for the best representative of the draught breed, and third prize at the Metropolitan Show the same year. Maggie Lauder, his dam, has been the winnei of sixteen prizes, ten of them being first prizes, in Otago. Thus showing Rob the Ranter on both sides to have come from the most successful prize stock exhibited in Otago—a position which he has eminently maintained. Terms, £3 IS®, including groomage.
