Mechanic is by Architect, out of Black Bess (dam of Victoria), and was imported from Tasmania, after extraordinary successes at tho Hobart races of 187G (his first racing season), in 1877, when ho was rising five years old. Since the season above-named, Mechanic has been kept regularly to the stud, and for hack purposes, at tho Shag Valley Station, where mares have been sontto him annually
His splendid temper and fine qualities as a hack suit him particularly for station purposes. The owner desires to part with him because of the unsuitability of the mountain country of Waihemo for thoroughbred stock, and the necessity of using half-bred horses almost exclusively.
