An influential meeting of residents was held at Christchurch on Eriday afternoon, at which it was resolved to erect a statue of W. S. Moorhouse in the domain on the land in front of the museum. The estimated cost is LISOO, and subscriptions are not to exeed five guineas. A sensational arrest was made at Napier on Friday. A farmer named Stevens missi«g his cattle repeatedly, gave information to the police, and a constable was sent to watch. Ho discovered a farmer named Peddle, who is in a very good position, driving off a cow. Peddle, when arrested, violently resisted, and had to he bound band and foot with ropes before be could be removed to goal.
