The Dunstan Times. CLYDE, FRIDAY, AUGUST 20, 1881
Beneath the rulo of men entirely Just The pen is mightier than the sword.
According to the Wellington correspondent of the “Lyttelton Times’’ (who is invariably well posted up in the actions of Government, and who at no time is very far out in his reckoning), “There is a probability of the House being dissolved within a week of its rising, and that the elections will take place in October, as preparations are now going on in certain Government departments tending in that, direction.” In the face of this warning note, it the more behoves everyone to well scan the electoral roll, and to lose no time in urging every qualified person to have his name enrolled, as immediately the writs are issued no further names can bo received. Whether the Representation Bill with the new electoral districts (which we give elsewhere) will become law this session there is no possibility of saving ; but, whether or not, it is certain there will be a general election ; and it is no less certain that it is the bounden duty of every man, gentle and simple, in fact, amounting to an actual and absolute command from one to another to be in a position to say “ Yes ” or “ No ” to any candidate that may seek his suffrages. We again raise our voice and say, “ Register ! Register ! Register! ” and thus show by your acts that you are alive to your interests. A full roll means a fat district, while in the converse a bare roll means poverty, want, and neglect. The latter position is not desirable, but is inevitable, if our advice is not taken; therefore, we again reiterate, “ Register ! Register ! Register ! ”
