AUCKLAND, August 20. Montgomery, formerly manager of the British Hotel, was committed for trial for indecently assaulting the little daughter of Mrs Sceats. At the Education Board, a motion to admit the Press to all meetings of the Board in Committee or otherwise, was rejected on the casting vote of the Chairman. CHRISTCHURCH, August 19. The Christchurch Benevolent Society have decided to dispense with the soup kitchen. A woman named Barbara Valentine was charged to-day with forging an order for goods. She sent her little girl to several shops, instructing her to tell them she was the daughter of a chemist named Baxter. The order which the girl presented was, however, signed Bakter, and in consequence the Resident held the charge was not sustained.
