DUNEDIN STOCK REPORT.
Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report for the week ending Wednesday, July 27,1881, as follows:
Fat Cattle.—-The total yarded was 271 head ; of these 80 were simply stores, _ the balance consisting of, say, 95 head prime, the rest very medium. Prices generally were about same as last, some pens of extra prime making higher rates. Best bullocks brought L 9 lOstolilS 10; others, L 4 10s to L 9 5s ; best cows, L 7 10s to LlO 5s ; others, L 4 10s to L 6 15s -or equal to 22s 6d to 25s per 1001b for prime, and 20s mediums Fat Calves.—Twenty were penned,mostly of inferior quality. We sold up to 655, Fat Sheep.—The week’s market was supplied with 1,434 cross-breds, about half of which were prime, and 300 merino wethers of good useful quality. This number proving scarcely equal to trade requirements, there was brisk demand, and prices a shade higher. Best cross-bred wethers sold at 15s to 16s 9d ;do ewes, 13s 9d to 15; others 10s 9d to 15; prime merino wethers, lls 3d to 12s 6d ; others, 10s 6d to lls. We quota prime mutton 2Jd per lb. Pigs.—l 99 came to hand, most of which were little better than stores. Bacon pigs sold at 34s ; porkers, 25s to 30s ; stores 5s to 21s. We quote pork 3Jd to 4d per lb. We sold, on account of Mrs Robinson (Milton) and others, 20, at 10s to 30s each, i i Wool.—On Monday we sold some small otsat—washed cross-breds, 12£ d ; scoured merino locks and pieces, 11 jd ; greasy merino, 7d to 8| per lb. Hides.—The local demand is not so brisk, only clean, sound, heavy hides realising late rates. On Monday we sold 54 at for heaviest, 44d ; medium, 4J ; inferior, 3|d to4d ; calfskins, 4d to per lb. Tallow.—No sales.
Grain.—Wheat remains at about last week’s quotations. Prime samples meet with inquiry; inferior is dull of sale. Oats : There has been but little business done during the week, and prices are slightly in favour of buyers. In barley there is Cut little doing, the prices continue low. We quote prime milling wheat 4s Id to 4s Sd ; extra choice, to4s4d ; good do, Ss lid to 4s ; medium, 3s 3d to 3s Sd ; inferior and fowls’ feed, 2s 2d to 3s Id. Oats—milling and bright feed, 2s to 2s 2d. Barley—malting, 2s 6d to 3s ; milling, 2s to 2s 3d ; feed, Is 9d to 2s.
