On the arrival of the Albion at Auckland on the 17th instant from Sydney, tho captain said there was no sickness on board and that he had a clean bill of health.
At Auckland more police proaecutious have been instituted re Employment of Females Act.
The Bank of New South Wales has purchased at New Plymouth a section of land, the price being Ll7 10s per foot, on which they intend erecting a handsome building, A farmer named Sams was brought into Timaru on the night of the 17th instant in almost a helpless condition, having fallen off a dray. Sams is one of tire oldest and most respected residents in the district. At the Thames, on the night of the ICth instant, one of the severest and most destructive Hoods was experienced. The rain was incessant for 40 hours, and all the creeks were so flooded as to carry away the bridges and bring clown thousands of tons of debris. It is estimated that the Borough Corporation will require L 5,000 to make good the injury to culverts, streets, &c.
