BLACK’S DISTRICT FARMERS’CLUB.
A meeting convened hy advertisement in the Dunvi'ak I'imks, was lielil at 'Javans Hotel, Uphir, on I’liursdav the 7 hj instant, for the purpose "f arranging fur a ploughing match and other busine.-s.
i\lr Stronach, who occupied the chair, opened the meeting hy saying the object of the meeting was to consider whether it was advisable or otherwise to have a ploughing match during the ensuing season ; he himself was favorable, as he considered that nothing was so beneticial to the agricultural interest generally as periodical meetings, whether they took the shape of ploughing matches or shows, or for merely discussing matters relating to farming. However, he thought before any decision could be arrived at, it was desirable that the position financially of the Club should be shown.
Mr J. (3. Chappie, Secretary to the Club, said that, since the late Agricultural Show he hadt not had the books, and consequently was unable to say exactly what was the precise state of affairs; he, however, could say there was a crcnC balance in hand of Lls or Ll6. which would be increased on payment of subscriptions due. He further said that., for a ploughing match he had two special prizes promised, one by Mr Joss, saddler, the o‘her, by MrJ. D Feraud. Proposed by MrJ. G. Chappie, seconded by Mr Thomas Mee—That it is desirable to have a plougning match in connection with the Blacks District Farmers’ Club.—Carried.
Proposed by Mr P. Harrington, seconded by Mr T. Mee—That a Committee, consisting of Messrs Harrington, Mee, R. M‘lntosh, \V. Neville, and T. Spain be appointed to carry out the object. Proposed by Mr Neville, seconded by Mr Spain—That the match be held on Friday, August 12th. The question now arose as to where the match should be held. After discussion it was resolved that the Committee be empow ered to select the ground.
The Secretary was instructed to prepare a statement of the affairs of the Club bj the 16th instant, on which date it was arranged the Committee should meet to receive the statement, draw up progrommoand to make all other arrangements in carrying out the match. The meeting then adjourned.
