London, July 4. Telegrams are to hand Horn Tunis announcing that French war ships are now bombarding the seaport of Sfax, where the rising of Arabs recently occurred. July 7. In the French Chamber of Deputies last night the Minister ot Commerce stated that France would insist upon specific duties being levied upon British goods, and no fresh treaty could bo concluded on any other basis. Midhat Pasha is to be exiled to Aradia for his complicity in the murder of the Sultan Abdul Aziz President Garfield continues to make satisfactory progress towards recovery. July 8. It is announced that the English financial houses Baring Bros, and (1. and J. Hamhro and Co. have contracted with the 1 talian Government for a new loan, the the amount of which has not, however, yet transpired. It will be issued next week, and upon conditions which will obviate the present moiiaUiy stringency now felt in Italy. President Garfield continues to make satisfactory progress, and is hourly gaining strength.
July 9. A grand review of Volunteers will be held before the Queen at Windsor in next month. Nearly 110,1100 men will he under arms on the occasion.
The loan which Messrs Baring Bros, have engagert to float for the Italian Government is L 30,000,000, bearing interest at 5 per cent.
Intelligence has been received from Tunis reporting that the French fleet before Sfax !s st-ill engaged shelling the town. An atat'e npt to land a storming party was repulsed,.
July 12. While one of the daughters of the Prince and Princess of Wales was oat driving today the horses bolted, and the carriage was completely smashed, hut the Princess fortunately escaped without injury. Advices to hand from New York report that the crops in the northern and western States of winter wheat has been harvested. On account of the unfavorable weather experienced during the Spring the yield this year shows a decrease of 2o per cent. Favorable accounts are to hand from the wired growing districts in France The yield is expected to be up to the average.
