WASTE LANDS BOARD, DUNEDIN.

THE BUN QUESTION. At the last meeting of the Waste Lands Board the important cpiestion was brought up by Mr Green—whether the leases shall be submitted twelve months before the expiry of the original time for which they were granted, or whether they shall be submitted twelve months before the month of March, to which date the time of occupation had been extended by statute. The Chairman said the leases would expire in March. Mr Green doubted whether that was so, and considered the matter of sufficient importance to have the opinion of the Crown Solicitor upon it. Mr Clark wanted to know what objection there could bo to getting the opinion of the judge. Ho desired to know if Mr Bathgate could say whether the leases would bo offered before September or before March. Mr Bathgate: I would certainly say March ; the Act says so. If it is disputed, then take an opinion. The Chairman: I think it would be clearly within the law if you gave them notice before March. The parties will never object, because it is to their own interest not to do so. Mr Reeves thought it might bo found nut when it was too late that they ought to have given notice before September instead of March, and ho considered it would be better to got an opinion on the matter than for them to remain in doubt. Mr Green said he was not in a position to give a legal opinion, ami that was why he would prefer that some person capable of giving one should be called upon to do so. If they obtained the opinion of the Judge then they would have something tangible to go upon, and could shelter themselves behind such opinion. Mr Green’s motion was altered to submit a case under clarso 33 for the opinion of the Judge as to when the new leases must be submitted to auction to legally comply with the term of the Land Act, 1877. MISCELLANEOUS. Bannockburn. —The District Land Officer at Clyde transmitted a letter received from Mr 0. Colclough on behalf of Mr Peake, with reference to his application to purchase business site at Bannockburn, stating that the house was erected at the suggestion of the Licensing Bench, with the view of his obtaining a License. It was resolved— “ That the previous decision of the Board be adhered to in the meantime.” Leaning Rock. The Chairman of the Vincent County Council forwarded a tracing and correspondence with reference to the proposed deviation of the road line facing sections 1M and 115, block 11, Leaning Rock.—Consideration was deferred for a week.

Nevis. —Mr W. Masters applied to purchase Oa. 0. 4p. in sections, Nevis district, under Ihe provisions of section 66 of tho Mines Act, 1877.—Recommended for tho approval of Governor. HUNTER’S PATENT DISINFECTANT. According to tho numerous testimonials that lie before us from the chief medical men in Victoria, am I from tho Press notices, this disinfectant is possessed of all tho qualities to bo desired, it being perfectly inodorous in itself, and the instant application to tho foulest and most corrupt matter destroying all smell. In tho sick chamber it is invaluable, for it not only destroys all folor, but it leaves no sickening smell; and moreover, it is valuable as a fertiliser. From practical tests we can speak of it as having every property the patentees represent, and can with confidence recommend it. Mr George Facho is the only agent for it in Otago, who, on application, will givo samples and every information necessary. He informs us that ho has a stock on hand in tins and bags.
