At an open air meeting at Wellington, held on the 16th instant, of the unemployed, it was resolved to petition the Minister of Public Works for work.
The Government are making inquiries as to tue extent of the outbreak of small-pox l at Sydney, with a view of ascertaining whether it, is necessary to take any precautionary measures here.
At Invercargill, the Freemasons are going to erect it hall, which, with site, will coat nearly L2 f l()0.
The Auckland City Council have resolved to open the Free Public Library on Sundays between 2 and G in the afternoon, and 7 and 10 at night. C. Clark, a cadet in the telegraph office at Russel, disappeared suddenly on the 16th ins: ant. He is supposed to have cleared out by some vessel. At Christchurch, on the 17th instant, a man was sentenced to a week’s imprisonment for stealing a loaf of bread. At Christchurch, on the 18th instant, the wreckage of the Pakeha was sold for LI 13155.
At Wellington Dr Skao is seriously ill. He is suffering from a severe attack of erysipelas. The Wakatipu, on tho2lat instant, took close on 10,0110 sacks o ( potatoes from Christchurch for Sydney.
