The Royal Princes will make a short stay at Adelaide before going to Melbourne. AtSydney, a local mechanic has succeeded in fitting a sculling boat with a sliding seat which acts as a motor in a similar manner to that in the heat in which Hanlon rowed the race for the Championship of the World was alleged to have been constructed.

A Melbourne telegram of the 10th instant states that James Henderson, the reputed owner of the steamship Ferret, made an attempt last evening to escape from Pentridge gaol. He had filed away the bars of his cell window, and had succeeded in making his exit from the cell when he was discovered by the warders and was again placed in custody. He now stands committed for trial on charges of conspiracy in connection with the Ferret.

The Royal Princes arrived at Adelaide on the 12th instant, where they were most enthusiastically received. They remain there a week, and then proceed to Melbourne. The Bacchante, having effected temporary repairs, left Albany on the 12th instant for Melbourne.

The repairs to the steamship Sorata are almost completed, and she will be ready for sea in a few days. Mr Byron Moore has accepted the Secretaryship of the Victoria Rac' Club. A Sydney telegram stat .is now definitely ascertained that the Chinese house recently isolated, contains a case of smallpox. Every precaution is being taken to prevent the spread of the disease, Dr Foucart, the medical attendant, being quarantined till a clean bill of health is obtained.
