D.J.C. QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY RACES. There was a large attendance at Forhury Park on Queen’s Birthday. The weather was all that could be desired, and the course was in splendid order. Long before the advertised lime for starting the first race, the course was thronged with an expectant mu titude The following is the result of the racing:— HANDICAP HURDLE RACE. Of 40sovs. Second horse to receive lOsovs. Two miles and a distance. Over 10 flights of hurdles. Isaac - - - 1 Robin Hood - - - 2 Romance - - - 3 Isaac won this race with the greatest ease, Robin Hood making a good second MAIDEN I’LATE. Of 30sovs. Weight for age. Mile and a quarter. Legerdemain - - - 1 Boughleen Dboun - - 2 Mameluke - - - 3 The betting was 5 to 2 on Legerdemain, and 5 to 2 agst Marmeluke. Legerdemain at once took the lead, followed by Marmeluke and Boughleen llhoun. This order was maintained to the mile, when Marmeluke and Boughleen Dhoun exchanged places BIRTHDAY HANDICAP Of 100 sovs. Second horse to ieceive 20 hjvs from the stakes. A mile and a half. The Poet - - -1 Lady Emma - - - 2 Hilda . - 3

The Poet, although closely pressed, succeeded in maintaining the lead throughout, and, after a most exciting tussle, p ssed the po-t a neck in frent of Lady b mma ; Hilda close up. HANDICAP TROTTING RACE Of 10 i-ovs. Tree miles Second horse to receive 10 so vs from the stakes. Native Cat - - - 1 Vicious - - - 2 Jessie - ■ - 3 Betting Even on Native Cat, 7to 2 agst Vicious. In this race there did not seem to be much doubt as to the ultimate winnet. Native Cat steadily passed the long starters one by one, and won easily. NOVEL RACE. A handicap of 60 sovs. One mile and a-half. Dolly Barwon - - 1 Swede - - - 2 Swagstnau - - - 3 At the mile, Dolly Barwon who had been waiting patiently, shot to the front, and after a short struggle in the run home won by about two lengths, Swede and Swagsman being second and third. tradesmen’s handicap. Of fiOsovs. The second horse to receive 70 sovs from the stakes. One mile and a distance. The winner of the Birthuay Handicap to cany I 01b extra. Coldstream - - - 1 Atlantic - - - 2 Hilda - - - 3 HACK RACE. There were nine entries in this race, which was won, after a spirited contest by Maude. CONSOLATION HANDICAP.

Of 30 sovs. The second horse to receive 10 sovs. One mile. Hilda - - - 1 Jasper - - - 2 The totalisator was worked by a Mr Spiague. There were no hitches, and a very satisfuctoiy stroke of business must have been transacted.

Some difference of opinion having arisen in the Commi'-tee of (he Cromwell Jockey Club as to what constituted a district-hred horse eligible to enter for the annual Derby, the secretary put a case to the “ Town and Conn ry Journal" and “Australasian” in these serins : —ln a Derby, entries for which can only be received from within certain prescribed bounds, termed a district, can a horse foaled by a district mare outside such bounds be deemed bred wiihin such district into which he is brought after being foaled ; and is he eligible to run for and win such Derby Stakes 1 Both authorities consulted agreed that, strictly reading the conditions of tnu race, the horse is not eligible to enter for the stakes.—“ Argus.”
