AROMATIC TONIC BITTER WINES, which are not only agreeable beverages, hut also have excellent medicinal finalities. The following is I’rofessor Black’s report : “ University, Dunedin. Otago. New Zealand laboratory. Class— Beverages. November sth, 1875. I have examine,l for Mr J 1). Ferae J, of Monte Clnisto, <’lydc, Otago, two samples of Aromatic Tonic Bitters, with the following result No. 82" is a sherry colored, and No 828 is a port wine red colored liquid ; th_y are both perfectly transparent showing the purity of the water and other substances employed in their manufacture. These two beverages have a slight acid chemical reaction, and possess an agreeable cool bitter taste, blended with a sensation of sweetness, arising from the sacharine matter of the fruit of which they are the fermented extract. 1 have also examined the aromatic and other flavoring subst es used by Mr Feraud in their niannf a( ,f lt io, and from the proportions in which they are blended with the fruit wine, they must be pronounced perfectly safe, anrt free from anything like deleterious properties. I consider this wine, therefore, an agreeable and perfectly safe beverage, and when diluted with three or four times their bulk of water, they will make a good cooling summer drink, JAMES O.
