A ROMANTIC WEDDING
On tlio occasion of the recent snowstorm there was a romantic and wellnigh tragic adventure at a farm on the Wiltshire Downs, near Warminster. A wedding party was caught in the. snow, and imprisoned for almost a week. Friends had come from far and near all in their Sunday best and not too warmly clad ; the ceremony had been performed at a distant church, and the party had somehow or other got back to the deserted farm to breakfast, when the feasting was interrupted by the ominous declaration that the roads were impassable, and that they were all snowed ir. To separate that night was impossible, and all looke l foiward to the. Kiorrow. Matters were worse than before, and bride, bridegroom, bridesmaids, beat men, sisters, cousins, and aunts had to face inevitable captivity. For some time provisions held out, but at last the provided marriage feast was utterly consumed, amusements pdledupou the prisoners, they were tired of dancing, everyone had told every story he knew to keep up the spirits of the guests, changes of raiment were deemed imperatively necessary, the space was too confined for flirtation, an ominous depression induced by daily and scanty rations of bread and bacon supervened ; and just as starvation was staring them all in the face a thaw set in, and a stalwart pioneer headed as merry a “ wedding march ” as ever trudged across the snow in search of hope and home.
